GREEN BOOST FOR CARRICKMACROSS

PML secure development of New Recycling Centre

Kilsaran based civil engineers Padhraic Moneley Ltd (PML) Civil Engineers and Contractors have secured a significant contract for the development of a brand new, state of the art Civic Amenity Recycling Centre located on the Ardee Link Road, Carrickmacross. The project will commence at the start of September and will be due to be completed at Christmas 2009, with total project works estimated at €1,500,000.00. This new development is much hailed green initiative by Monaghan County Council to improve the recycling services available to the people of southern Monaghan. The facility will allow the surrounding communities to increase the amount of recyclates currently being segregated and recovered by the people of Monaghan, in particular the southern region of the county.

The development of the new facility for Carrickmacross has been hailed as a huge success for implementing the overall Waste Management Plan for the North East Region. The overall plan was developed by the main local authorities including Cavan, Louth and Meath as well as Monaghan and boosts the regions overall sustainability and environmentally friendly ethos.

The recycling centre will enhance the existing recycling infrastructure within the North East Region, in particular making it considerably more convenient for over 5000 households in the southern area of the County recycle their domestic waste materials. The centre will accept a wide range of materials including plastic, cardboard, paper, clothes and footwear, steel & aluminium cans, glass, green waste, timber, polystyrene, batteries, paints & pesticides, mobile phones, all electrical goods. Green waste may also be recycled at the facility but a final decision will be considered after preliminary tests of the fully operational facility are assessed.

Currently people from the area would normally have to travel to either Dundalk or Scotchcorner to recycle their domestic and commercial wastes, burdening them with vehicles fuel costs and the time spent in transit, estimated to be in the region of one hour. With the opening of the new facility it is expected the level of recycling within the region will considerably increase due to convenience of the service.

Monahan County Council working in conjunction with the NE Waste Development Plan have after rigorous engineering planning, scheduling and interviewing chosen PML (Civil Engineers and Contractors) to complete the project. The decision to choose PML was based on their extensive experience within the public sector, having a strong portfolio of civic amenity projects. It was decided that PML possessed the necessary engineering competences and personnel skills and experience to carryout the works within the time and budget.

The project involves a variety of engineering specialism’s including the construction of pile foundations, reinforced concrete ground beams and ground slam, a block work administration building, a portal frame bailing building with retaining wall, sub slab retention pond with petrol interceptor, foul water drainage, all associated mechanical and electrical works, ducting, landscaping and ancillary works.
